A Postcard from Cairo

‘Twirl’ is inspired by the mesmerizing spin of the Tannoura dancer, a figure deeply woven into Cairo’s spiritual and cultural fabric. The design echoes the dancer’s layered skirt, captured through concentric shapes and fluid stitching that spirals across the piece’s surface. The detailing nods to the ornate belt that anchors his movement, while an abstract form of the tarboosh floats near the center, a subtle homage to the dancer’s presence. Organic lines cut through the rug, mimicking the rhythm of rotation, creating a sense of motion frozen in time. This piece channels the joy, ceremony, and hypnotic beauty of Cairo’s streets and sacred spaces.
